psychic dancehall.

dorian wartime and sylvia innocent make up this tripped out, super reverby sounding band. the contrasting yet equally harmonic voices along with the steady drum beats and distinct keyboard tones flow together in an interesting almost timeless manner. consider this a music experiment gone right. i recommend listening to #'s 1,7, 9 if you're too impatient to listen to the entire lp.

proved that its possible 4 dirt poor misfits could change the way people would think for the rest of time, not only with their music and fashion but with their inability to censor themselves. i highly suggest you read john lydon's book "rotten: no irish, no blacks, no dogs".

an interesting perspective.

do your parents know that you're ramones?

the movie that inspired shepard fairey's zillions.

THEY LIVE by the master JOHN CARPENTER starring roddy piper and keith david (dude might be in every movie you've ever seen). this is probably one of the best sci-fly movies of all time. definitely one of the best fight scenes of all time happens between roddy and dude. supposedly universal is re-making of this now which is a load of dogshit but i read that they are planning on focusing the script on "Eight O'Clock in the Morning" the short story by Ray Nelson which They Live is based on. i wonder which trainwreck of an actor will take roddy's place... keanu ("back off, Warchild")reeves, marky mark (my eyebrows do the acting for me) wahlberg, or the one and only nic ("how in the name of zeus' butthole") cage. anyhoo, i highly suggest you go to best buy and buy the john carpenter box set. dude's a genius.

dabs & myla.

two of the nicest people to ever picked up a spraycan. usually people from austrailia are pretty nice but they take to the HNL. these two never take a break. i swear they have doubles because it seems like they are in a never ending cycle of painting walls-doing art shows-painting walls-releasing prints-painting walls-releasing toys (& painting more walls). after a sold out show at thinkspace (LA) they're featured in Young & Free: Australian Contemporary Street Artists at 941 Geary (SF) which just opened. they're insane... insanely good. go buy something on their site now before they start selling their stuff for millions of (american) dollars and i say i told you so. click here for more dabs & myla

Þorvaldur Jónsson

hailing from the great land of ice, i met this nice young chap in jolly ol' england while on vacation in 2004? i don't remember, but it sounds about right. i had no idea he was artistically talented until recently but aside from that all i know is that he is a genuine human being. and i don't say that about anyone. for realz. i also found out that icelanders can drink more than anyone else in the world and still be able to function... sort of. (shout out to BK!!)

this might be the only non-icelandic write up you'll find anywhere thus far in his emerging art career. pay attention to this one, i'm predicting great things.

here's the gallery write up about his show "Hvöf" at the Modern Art Gallery:
Þorvaldur graduated from the Iceland Academy in 2009 and this is his second solo exhibition at Modern Art Gallery, and have participated in many group exhibitions including in Turkey last year. Most works are based Þorvaldur nostalgia of his childhood with reference to "pop culture" of the eighties. Works that often are made of wooden boards with industrial chemicals prisoners generally rómatískar animal figures in an alien environment, creating a captivating contrast to the subject itself and the natural environment for the artist himself grew up.

some older work.
