Þorvaldur Jónsson

hailing from the great land of ice, i met this nice young chap in jolly ol' england while on vacation in 2004? i don't remember, but it sounds about right. i had no idea he was artistically talented until recently but aside from that all i know is that he is a genuine human being. and i don't say that about anyone. for realz. i also found out that icelanders can drink more than anyone else in the world and still be able to function... sort of. (shout out to BK!!)

this might be the only non-icelandic write up you'll find anywhere thus far in his emerging art career. pay attention to this one, i'm predicting great things.

here's the gallery write up about his show "Hvöf" at the Modern Art Gallery:
Þorvaldur graduated from the Iceland Academy in 2009 and this is his second solo exhibition at Modern Art Gallery, and have participated in many group exhibitions including in Turkey last year. Most works are based Þorvaldur nostalgia of his childhood with reference to "pop culture" of the eighties. Works that often are made of wooden boards with industrial chemicals prisoners generally rómatískar animal figures in an alien environment, creating a captivating contrast to the subject itself and the natural environment for the artist himself grew up.

some older work.

if perchance you find yourself in Reykjavic go in and buy something!  see more here: hw13gallery
